OTW Sports Barricades at ReVamped Fitness
Barricades can often be found in what might feel like unlikely locations, but are actually right at home!
OTW’s superior billboard barricade fits the bill for crowd control in just about any location or event you can think of.
Take CrossFit ReVamped in Columbia, MD, for example. Opened in 2012, their large 9,000-square-foot open floor plan housed a plethora of people just fine, but it lacked any sort of division between classes.
Owners Alea and Gary Helmick needed a way to flexibly divide their vast space into more manageable areas to run multiple classes at a time. For many years, they used caution tape or heavy benches or boxes to divide spaces and crowds, but they found that these methods simply weren’t safe or effective enough. Benches and boxes were cumbersome eyesores, especially when areas needed to be changed quickly. Caution tape is flimsy and doesn’t truly separate anything. But what to do?
As competitive athletes themselves, they know the value of giving athletes of all levels intentional space for their workouts. Alongside running the gym and offering classes, they also mentor high-level athletes in the (CrossFit) sport and program training for competitive athletes. They knew that they needed something sturdy yet lightweight enough to move on a dime… and something aesthetically pleasing wouldn’t hurt either!
Enter the OTW Billboard Barricade.
A CrossFit barricade, you say? Absolutely! OTW Safety barricades have allowed CrossFit ReVamped to partition areas of their gym to safely run adult and kids classes simultaneously. 9,000 square feet is no small space, so defining areas for their kids, adults, and families programs is important!
Giving kids visible boundaries helps keep them safe, especially in a setting like a CrossFit gym. While CrossFit isn’t just lifting heavy things, much of the equipment used in a gym is> heavy, thus presenting a potential hazard. Adults also need to focus on their workouts to do them safely, so keeping things separated is a must!
We chatted with Alea, and she gave us insight into how they use OTW barricades every day, specifically referencing their kids’ classes. She said, “The setup and breakdown of each barricade takes seconds. Their lightweight nature allows our staff to quickly set up and adjust barriers at a moment’s notice. Their community has grown and continues to grow as the years pass.
Gary and Alea are thrilled to see a large number of everyday athletes finding lasting fitness routines at ReVamped. From beginners to the dedicated 5:30 AMers, from individuals getting in a good workout to families doing it together, CrossFit Revamped sees a wide variety of people every single day.
They also currently work with Sandstone Care, a local rehabilitation facility for teens and young adults struggling with substance abuse. They are motivated to continue to help the community through CrossFit and plan to expand their partnerships, all while providing the best experience for current members.
The gym has grown over the years and thus has had to grow in safety measures as well. Their investment in OTW Safety barricades has been transformative for the ReVamped gym and events: being able to organize both small and large groups of people allows them to keep teaching fitness in a safe space. They also use billboard barricades at the annual Vekter Games, a CrossFit competition they have been privileged to host for the last ten years. They corralled athletes, organized vendors, and kept spectators safe on the sidelines with ease.
