Crowd control barricades race to the Doxie Derby

From conferences to festivals and many places in between, our crowd control barriers, the Billboard Barricade, have been present for safety and crowd management at all sorts of events. The latest place they’ve been found? Millcreek Common’s annual Doxie Derby!
What is the Doxie Derby?
The Wasatch Front Wiener Dog Racing Association and Millcreek Commons partnered for the first time last year to bring us the very first Doxie Derby. [add that it’s a dog race] A “howling success”, the duo brought the festivities back for another go around. Local dachshund (also known as doxies and wiener dogs) owners were invited to bring their pups to race once again for fun, lots of pats, and, of course, a chance at winning glory.
Along with the races, local pet businesses set up booths for the opportunity to shop, while food, beverages, and good music rounded out the festivities. In addition to the fun, organizers put together a fundraiser to help doxies in need find new homes or fosters.
It was a rainy day this year, but the weather didn’t dampen the spirits of those who came out to Millcreek Common to join in the fun. The event ran all afternoon on March 29, 2025, and dozens of little wiener dogs lined up at the starting line to test their mettle. With a Jumbotron, doggie kiss (boop) cam, and a live bracket, spectators could see everything happening, no matter how far behind the crowd control barriers they were.
How were OTW crowd control barricades used at this event?
For the second year in a row, sleek white Billboard Barricades were set up for the main event – the race track! Connected in distinct lines on both sides, the event barriers partitioned off the seventy-five-foot track where the pups raced. Alongside the track and throughout the venue, other Billboard Barricades showcased custom signage for the event.
Another OTW presence? Our very own Director of Production Services, Patrick Burns, raced his little pup at the event. “Why not!?” said his partner when asked “why race doxies?” on ABC4 Utah, “Look how cute they are… They’re the best, they’re the fastest!”. And fast they are, with adorable dachshunds of every color racing down the little speedway to victory, spectators cheering them on and enjoying the time spent with other dog lovers.
Where else can OTW event barriers be used?
The Doxie Derby might be one of the more unique use cases for our tried-and-true Billboard Barricades, but it’s definitely not the only place they’ve been found! You might see our crowd barriers at places like:
- Your local zoo
- Airports
- The farmers’ market
- Conferences
- Festivals
- Concerts
- Block parties
- And more!
Billboard barricades are durable, reliable, and safe to use in many capacities as crowd management, whether creating spectator areas, blocking off VIP spots, or defining the perfect dachshund racing track.
