5 of the Most Common Uses for Pedestrian Barricades

While the most common use for pedestrian barricades is generally to guide guests, we have found that a frequently asked question is, “What else can I use a crowd control barricade for?” In our 30 years in the safety industry, we’ve seen many different organizations use pedestrian barricades for a huge variety of reasons. Construction companies, event promoters, elementary schools, high schools, colleges, go-kart courses, military bases, and police departments all have made use of pedestrian barricades for everyday reasons – or for specific functions – during events. Among all the versatile uses for plastic barricades, we have found that our customers tend to value them for these five reasons most of all:

Reason 1: Construction
Pedestrian barricades are essential for many construction projects. They’re perfect for quick fixes where a clearly defined hazard or work area is required (at just 33 pounds empty, they can be set up around the site, the work done, and the barricade folded down and away for easy transport). They’re also equally complementary to our traffic and construction barricades. Pedestrian barricades, like our Billboard Barricade, are often used to create walkways in large, active work zones, while heftier barricades (like the OTW 42” Jersey Shape LCD) are positioned around heavy machinery, as a sturdy perimeter, or as the base for Barricade Fence Panels.

Reason 2: Delineation/Crowd Control
Often, event organizers need to cordon off a restricted or VIP zone at a festival, block access to a stage at a concert or rally, or create pathways to guide guests. A school may use pedestrian barricades to reserve a parking area for students or teachers, to create a clear queue for a large cafeteria lunch line, or to separate spectators from athletes and the field or gym floor at sporting events. Pedestrian barricades are effective at separating large spaces because they’re highly visible, very durable, and can connect to form a continuous wall. In addition, plastic barricades are generally safer than metal barricades, especially in use around people, which can rust, be tipped over, and form jagged edges that may harm passersby.

Reason 3: Advertising & Branding
Plastic barricades present businesses and other entities with an excellent opportunity to promote their brand. Not only can consumers customize the color of OTW Safety barricades in particular, but most can also include unique signs or logos as well. For instance, schools sometimes sell space on our Billboard Barricades that are placed around their campus to local sponsors. This way, businesses can gain exposure at popular, high-visibility events like concerts or sports games, and organizations can gain extra income.
Construction companies have also used barricades with added fence panels and custom printed covers to promote their own business. Plastic barricades are colorful, highly visible, and are a savvy way for organizations to boost their own brand or raise money through advertising.
Reason 3: Information
Plastic barricades with added signage can not only act as an advertising tool, but can also be used to post information and guidance. For example, our pedestrian barricades are large enough to contain messages – like directions around campus – for visitors and new students during events like sports games, new student orientations, and more. Other businesses have used plastic barricades with custom signage to inform motorists about parking restrictions, time limits, or even their menu!
Reason 4: Safety
Above all, pedestrian barricades help organizations keep people safe during events, construction, and day-to-day traffic. Whether that’s by directing vehicles, directing school kids to the proper places, or warning motorists of a potential hazard or something they need to be aware of, plastic barricades are designed to ensure the safety of pedestrians and workers alike.
