You will be responsible for designing and developing new products and improving/innovating our current products, primarily using rotational and blow molding processes. You will provide technical responses to customer inquiries, conduct competitive analysis, and provide well formulated briefs to company leadership. Initially, this position is not a supervisory position; however, as the company grows it is anticipated that you will take on supervisory responsibility for engineering hires to assist with our engineering related activities.
We are a growing small business that relies on communication and teamwork – you will have regular access to company executives and owners, be routinely asked for input during strategic level discussions, and be expected to make well-informed decisions. Attention to detail, time management, confidence, humility, and excellent communication skills are paramount.
You will be part of an energetic and innovative group of professionals developing world class safety solutions for airports, construction sites, crowd control and security uses. This position requires the confidence to work both independently and in groups, sometimes with outside stakeholders. You must be self-motivated, proactive, and organized.
What You Will Do:
- Design and develop plastic products and components using rotational, blow, and occasionally injection molding processes.
- Create CAD drawings for new products, update existing files, and maintain strict revision controls.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to meet project timelines, quality standards and cost targets.
- Create detailed product specifications, drawings, and engineering documentation for production.
- Conduct mold flow analysis, finite element analysis, and other simulations to optimize part design and manufacturing processes.
- Act as primary technical liaison for all manufacturing activities from prototype to production, including troubleshooting and resolving issues that arise during production.
- Respond to vendor or customer technical or design file requests.
- Collaborate with suppliers and vendors to source and procure materials and equipment needed for production.
- Participate in product testing, validation and DFMEA to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
- Develop and implement quality control processes to ensure products meet customer specifications and quality standards.
- Provide technical and creative support to sales and marketing teams to assist with customer inquiries and product development.
- Review products and processes and make suggestions to improve value-stream costs.
- Perform project related tasks (i.e., project schedules, cost estimates, presentations, etc.) for management.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in plastic engineering or related engineering field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in rotational and blow molding plastic product design and development using industry standards.
- Demonstrated expertise in rotational and blow molding processes, mold design and material selection.
- Demonstrated technical skills in 3D modeling and CAD software, such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication (both written and spoken) and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated organizational and project management skills to plan, prioritize and execute assigned work with successful results.
- Ability to accomplish tasks both individually or collaboratively in a team environment.
Desired Qualifications:
- Minimum 10 years of experience in rotational and blow molding plastic product design and development using industry standards.
- Minimum 3 years of demonstrated experience in managing rotational and/or blow molding projects for the design and development of plastic products.
